![]() ![]() How to Play a 3-octave C Major Scale With the All State music out for the fall. Scale Challenge 2 In this video we perform a scale challenge with F, B-flat, and E-flat major 1-octave scales in different tempos. Now she practices with exercises and assigns them to students but her greatest passion is playing chamber music. Scale Challenge 1 In this video we perform a scale challenge with C, G, and D major 1-octave scales in different tempos. Myanna Harvey's teacher assigned her piles of exercises when she was growing up but whenever her mother stopped listening, Myanna would quickly break away from the Sevcik to play a bit of Brahms or Beethoven she had heard on the radio. Just like the 5th and 6 position exercises we did for B-flat major and A major, this practice isolates the new position to optimize your practice time. She searches for rare and out-of-print studies and etudes in her free time. Start with 2 to 3 minutes per day of 7th position practice. G to A is a Whole Step-meaning it would use the same spacing as your 1st finger to 3rd finger in first position. ![]() Pluck open D, put your 1st finger down for E, 3rd finger down for F, 4th finger down for G-and stop there. As I watched over the years while some of my students struggled with knowing how far to shift in three-octave scales, I knew that there had to be a solution. Now pretend you’re about to play a D Major scale. Cassia Harvey can't ever find or play enough exercises. Three-octave scales, in particular, can be used to teach nearly all of the notes on the cello.
